Halong Bay(V1969 limestone islands and scorpionssticking out of turquoise water. UNESCO since 1994, electedOne of the 7 New Wonders of Nature(2011). Name: “The Bay of the Coming Dragon” — a legend of a dragon that spewed gems at the bottom, creating islands.
Geology in Brief
Lime massifs formed 500 million years. Karst erosion (letting calcite through acid rainwater) carved stalactites, caves, underwater tunnels. The highest islands:Titop(110 m),Đảo Đầu Gỗ. Over3000 species of fauna, including endemic goldenhead monkeys (only 60 individuals live!).

Alternative: Cat Ba Island
The largest island of the bay (285 km2), with 8,000 inhabitants + national park. Exception: since 2024 TU are luxurious ‘junk’ which instead of a 2-day cruise make escapade from the port of Ben Beo. Base cheaper and more often with canoes.

Main caves
Sung Sot (Hang Sửng Sot) — ‘Surpractice Cave’
The largest Halong cave. 3 chambers, 10,000 m2 surface area, height up to 30 m. Artificial lighting. 45 minutes of sightseeing. Admission in the price of the cruise.
Thien Cung ("The Heavenly Palace")
Smaller but very rich in stalactite formations.
Bo Nau (Pelikana Cave)
Smaller, less tourists, great for a canoe.
Titop Island and the beach
An island named after the Soviet cosmonautGermana Titowawho visited here with Ho Chi Minhem in 1962. Short entrance (400 degrees) to the terrace with a bay panorama — Instagram Halong. Half-moon beach downstairs.
Kayak in the Gulf
Classic program:Luon Cave(Ha Long) — a canoe flows into a lagoon surrounded by cliffs, wild monkeys live here.Dark & Bright Caves(Lan Ha) — literally a dark cave goes into a bright lagoon.
